Play therapy process

An intake form will be emailed to you to complete and send back to me prior to the initial parent meeting. This will give me a better idea of the background, development and difficulties faced by your child. Please fill this out as far as possible, however, I will assist with any queries/uncertainties around questions in our initial meeting.

Thereafter I will set up an initial meeting with the parents/caregivers to get an in-depth understanding of challenges faced and will also provide you with more information as to what the play therapy process entails. This meeting is usually 45 min - 1 hour.

After the initial meeting with the parent/caregiver, play therapy sessions are held with the child. The number of play therapy sessions held could range from 6 - 12 sessions (or more if necessary) and depend on many factors including: age of the child, how child responds to play therapy, difficulties faced and developmental stage. Play therapy sessions are usually 30-45 minutes in duration depending on the age of the child. I will arrange interim (if necessary) and final review feedback sessions with parents during the play therapy process and after sessions are complete. I will meet with parents/caregivers to provide feedback and discuss any further questions or concerns you may have. This meeting is also usually around 1 hour.
Importance of consistency
It is important to be consistent in bringing your child to each play therapy session and to try not to miss out on a session as this interrupts the play therapy process and the momentum of the process.
